The “Starnacht aus der Wachau” with top-class pop stars was supposed to take place next weekend. But the event has literally fallen through.

On September 20th and 21st, a top-class pop event was supposed to take place in Austria with the “Starnacht aus der Wachau”, hosted by Barbara Schöneberger and Hans Sigl. Numerous popular musicians were announced, such as Andrea Berg and Andreas Gabalier. But the event will not take place, the organizer has now announced.

The reason for the cancellation was a current storm situation, it was announced on the event’s Instagram channel. You can read more about the weather situation here. “Preparations for a possible flood force the dismantling of the ‘Starnacht aus der Wachau’ arena and thus the cancellation of the show,” it continues. Due to the worrying water level of the Danube and the associated official requirements and orders, a safe holding of the event is “impossible”.

According to the notice, the event site must be cleared; flood protection is expected to be installed during the course of the day. “Reconstruction of the event site could begin in the middle of next week at the earliest and is no longer feasible in terms of time and technology by the planned day of the event,” is the justification in the statement.

However, a replacement program will be shown on television, the announcement states. “Starnacht – Das Beste aus der Wachau” will be shown on ORF 2 and OFR ON at 8:15 p.m. The biggest hits and most beautiful moments of the past few years will be shown there. Tickets will be refunded.

Some pop fans were disappointed by the announcement, but were still understanding. “It’s a shame. Safety comes first,” wrote one person. Others, however, were clearly looking forward to the alternative program on television. “I’ll watch it,” announced one person.
