A vibrant celebration of German Schlager music took over the streets of Hamburg on Thursday, as hundreds of thousands of fans descended upon the St. Pauli district for the annual Schlagermove. The event, now in its 27th year, promises a day and night of music, dancing, and exuberant displays of fan spirit.
A Sea of Fans and Music Trucks
The spectacle began around 3 p.m. local time, with a convoy of 50 elaborately decorated music trucks departing from the Heiligengeistfeld. The parade route wound its way through the city, passing the Landungsbrücken and the iconic Reeperbahn before returning to its starting point. Spectators lined the streets, cheering, dancing, and singing along to the infectious beats. Organizers anticipated a turnout of several hundred thousand people, making it one of the largest street parties in Europe.

The atmosphere was amplified by the colorful attire of the fans, many sporting bag trousers, wigs, and eye-catching accessories, including the signature squeaky shirts synonymous with the Pop movement in Hamburg.

The festivities were set to continue late into the night with an after-move party also held at the Heiligengeistfeld. DJ Vossi was scheduled to headline, with additional performances from singers such as Jürgen Peter, Norman Langen, and a tribute artist performing as Wolfgang Petry.
Increased Security and Public Transportation
Authorities prepared for the massive influx of people, deploying additional staff to the St. Pauli, Landungsbrücken, and South Central Station areas. To accommodate the crowds, the U3 subway line operated with increased frequency and extended hours throughout the night. The Schlagermove has been a fixture in Hamburg since 1997, and city officials have refined their logistical planning over the years to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
