The board of the Catholic Women’s Association had decided to donate part of the proceeds from the sale of coffee and cake at the Schmidmühlen market festival. “We want to use these donations to support the parish, the library and the Amberg Tafel,” emphasized Rosi Obermeier from the women’s association’s executive team. When the donations were handed over, chairman Bernhard Saurenbach reported on the Amberger Tafel at the request of the women’s association. “The Amberg Tafel supplies those in need with food in return for a voluntary donation. Tons of food are destroyed in Germany every day. Fruit and vegetables with small blemishes, bread and baked goods that could not be sold on the day they were made. Food from supermarkets that is close to its best before date. Perfect goods from surplus production. These goods can be purchased in our food bank shop for a small donation,” emphasized Saurenbach. “We are currently serving 1,150 households with almost 1,700 adults and almost 1,200 children, including a good 648 Ukrainian households with 968 adults and over 500 children.” The Amberger Tafel works with 85 volunteers whose job is to collect, sort and distribute the donated food . Pastor Werner Sulzer for the parish and Doris Flieder for the library also thanked the Catholic Women’s Association for the donations.
