A plus-2 student of a private school operating in Kaniyamoor village of Chinnasalem, Kallakurichi district, died mysteriously on the 13th. The student’s parents refused to buy the body of the student claiming that there was a mystery in her death and were protesting continuously demanding action against the school administration. The peaceful protest in front of the school suddenly ended in violence on Sunday 17th. As a result, all the school and school vehicles attended by the student were set on fire and looted.
52 policemen including DIG Pandian who tried to stop the riots were seriously injured. After this, there was a widespread allegation that if the police had taken proper precautions in the case of the school girl’s death, the riots would not have taken place on a large scale. Subsequently, Kallakurichi District Collector Sridhar and District SP Selvakumar were promptly transferred. In which SP Selvakumar has been kept in the waiting list. Subsequently, Shravankumar Jadavath was appointed as the new collector of Kallakurichi district and Deputy Commissioner of Chennai Tiruvallikeni Pagalavan was appointed as the district SP.
In the meantime, Kallakurichi DSP Rajalakshmi has been relieved from duty and transferred to the waiting list of DGP office in connection with the riot and the death of the student. DGP Shailendrababu has given the order. Following this, Arakkonam DSP Phugahendi Ganesan has been appointed as the new DSP for Kallakurichi.
