Schoolgirls in Iran have joined anti-government protests against the treatment of women. Schoolgirls from Karaj, near Tehran, the capital of Iran, took to the streets in support of the current protests. After taking off their hijabs, the students came to the street. The protest by the female students raised slogans against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

A similar protest took place in Zakes, near Iran’s western border. The protest of the female students here was with the slogan of death to the dictator. Zakes is also the hometown of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was killed after being taken into police custody for not wearing a proper headscarf. But Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blames America and Israel for the protests in the country. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei responded the other day that the current rebellion was engineered by Iran’s arch-enemies and their allies.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says that the current rebellion was engineered by Iran’s arch-enemies and their allies due to their hostility towards the country’s growing power in all areas. Khamenei sees the protests as the biggest challenge to his nearly decade-long rule.

22-year-old Mahsa Amini was taken into custody on September 13 for not wearing a proper headscarf. After hours of detention, Mahsa Amini fell into a coma and died three days later. Mahsa’s family alleges that the detained officers hit Mahsa on the head with a baton and hit Mahsa’s head in the vehicle. But the Iranian police say that there is no evidence of torture in custody and that the woman died due to a heart attack. Mahsa’s funeral was followed by several women-led protests in Iran. Women were protesting in the streets by throwing off their headscarves and burning them.
