Bad weather brings bitter cold and snow in the next few days, while the National Weather Service issued an emergency bulletin of gale force winds, with schools remaining closed on Wednesday (10/1) in various areas.
Snow, strong winds and severe cold are expected to be the main features of the new wave of bad weather that will hit the country in the coming hours.
Vathy Avlida
Following a decision by the Mayor of Chalkide, Elena Vaka, the operation of the Vatheos Avlida Primary School will be temporarily suspended for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10, due to a planned power outage in the wider area, for the implementation of works by DEDDIE.
Samothrace
The decision that the schools of Samothraki will not operate tomorrow was made by the mayor of Thanasis Vitsas, due to the weather conditions prevailing on the arid island.
Florina
By decision of the Mayor of Florina, Mr. Vasilis Giannakis, on Wednesday, January 10, the primary and secondary schools of the Municipality of Florina will remain closed, due to the low temperatures prevailing in the region. Also, the KDAP of the Municipality of Florina will remain closed. Kindergartens will operate as normal.
Larissa
The suspension of three school units of Larissa due to emergency damage to the heating system was decided by the Municipality of Larissa with relevant announcements. In particular, these are the following:

The co-located 2nd kindergarten and 4th primary schools of Pylaia will remain closed tomorrow on Tuesday 9/1 and Wednesday 10/1. Kozani: Schools will start at 09:15 – Normally kindergartens and nurseries
Due to the very low temperatures prevailing in our area, by decision of the Mayor of Kozani, Yiannis Kokkaliaris, all Primary & Secondary Education (Kindergartens, Elementary, Middle Schools, High Schools) as well as Special Education (Primary and Secondary) schools of the Municipality of Kozani, will start their operation at 09:15, on Wednesday January 10, 2024. Also, the end of classes in Evening High Schools, High Schools and EPAL, on Wednesday January 10, 2024 will be at 20:00. The Children’s and Nursery Centers will operate normally.
Rapid change in the next few hours – Where and when it will snow
Clearchos Marousakis posted on social media a snowfall forecast map for the next few hours, mentioning at the same time that snow will fall even at low altitudes in Attica. As shown on the map, snow is expected to fall in Peloponnese, Central Greece, Thessaly, North Aegean, Thessaloniki and other areas.
According to Clearchos Marousakis, bad weather with very low temperatures will “hit” our country from Friday and will last until Sunday. He argued that there is a possibility that on Saturday and Sunday it will snow in Attica, even at low altitudes, i.e. in the northern suburbs, but even in the center of the city some temporary snowfalls may occur. In fact, he did not rule out the possibility of “laying” it in the northern suburbs.
