Schools in 74 municipalities in Pas-de-Calais “particularly impacted by the floods” affecting the department will be closed Thursday and Friday, the department prefecture announced this Wednesday.
Four courses in the department (Liane, Hem, Aa and Canche) are placed on orange flood alert, which will also apply to the entire department on Thursday for risks of rain-flooding. Schools in the Liane and Aa basins had already been closed on Tuesday.
Three minor injuries
Since Monday, the floods have caused three minor injuries in the department, specifies the prefecture, which adds that at the same time, firefighters carried out 860 interventions linked to the floods.
Nearly 200,000 people live in these four basins, 5,200 of whom are currently deprived of running water around Samer, in Boulonnais, specifies the prefecture. Further precipitation on Wednesday and the “more significant” precipitation expected on Thursday “risk accentuating the current flood on the Canche”, warns Vigicrues.
The four rivers are experiencing “historic” floods, underlined prefect Jacques Billant on Wednesday. Liane, Aa and Hem have already exceeded their reference peak, while Canche should exceed it in the evening.
