Schrems, Gmünd – “Commissar Coincidence” led to a cheeky car thief and loot 2024-02-08 19:33:00

by time news

According to a police report, the stupidly bold boy stole a car from an unlocked garage in the Schrems urban area shortly after midnight on February 7th. Extensive investigations by the Schrems police officers after the incident was reported in the morning hours led them to the trail of a 19-year-old from the Gmünder district. Witnesses had seen the car – rumored value: around 15,000 euros – with the still unknown occupant speeding away from the crime scene at night at a far excessive speed.

The 19-year-old apparently had no intention of keeping his crime a secret: around midday, he was spotted by patrol officers from the Gmünd police station driving around with the loot in the Gmünd area. But now he sped away and, according to the police, ignored various attempts to stop him during his rapid, reckless escape and initially escaped on Czech territory.

Escape on foot was even more difficult. It was ultimately thanks to “Commissioner Chance”, a radar measurement on the B2 federal highway and the attention of an employee of the Lower Austrian state transport department that the handcuffs still clicked in the afternoon: The man picked up the wanted man around 3 p.m. during measurements at Steinbach (municipality Brand-Nagelberg) true. He ran away again, but he didn’t get very far on two legs. Schrems police officers were able to arrest him in an adjacent forest.

Vehicle seized in Halámky. During the interrogation, he not only confessed to the theft of the car, but also stated where the vehicle was parked, according to the state police. Czech police officers were then able to seize it not far from the state border in the municipality of Halámky.

The Krems public prosecutor’s office arranged for the cheeky car thief to be sent to the Krems prison.
