Hundreds of students show their projects on chemistry, biology and robotics, among others, at the Elisis Camps || In honor of the Lleida biochemist

A thousand little scientists took over the Camps Elisis de Lleida yesterday in the sixteenth edition of the Science on the street, this year dedicated to the figure of the Lleida biochemist Joan Oró, within the framework of the centenary of his birth. The initiative, promoted by the Center de Recursos Pedagògics del Segrià, aims to discover new vocations and bring science closer to children and adults through different experiments on natural phenomena created and explained by the students themselves. Thus, in the Elisis Camps, a total of 54 scientific demonstration tables were installed in which students from about thirty educational centers in Ponent and surroundings presented projects related to topics such as artificial intelligence, the SDGs, water, chemistry, atmospheric pressure or molecular cooking, among others.

Likewise, children and adults could enjoy the explanations of 15 scientific communicators, including Anicet Cosialls, Antxon Anta, Carlos Moreno or Florenci Pla Altisent. Among the proposals presented, a water rocket impressed the little ones, who watched stunned how it was propelled to a great height after repeatedly stepping on a kind of stain. Likewise, attendees were able to see beyond the sky with a telescope and in the dome that the Parc Astronòmic del Montsec installed in the Museu Roda Roda, as well as in the sensitive planetarium of Cel Obert.

In the most artistic branch, the Institut d’Alcarràs interpreted the play The Little Prince: from asteroid 599755 to Joan Oró’s planet, in homage to the scientist from Lleida.
