Not all biodegradable plastic is safe for the earth, says UK study

Plastics take a long time to biodegrade in soil. But some plastics are sold as completely biodegradable. These include food parcel, carry bag, water cup, plate etc.

In this case, 9701 people were examined for biodegradable plastic products in Britain for 2 years. Only 40 percent of it decomposes in the soil. The remaining 60 percent does not decompose and affects soil fertility, the study said. Experts advise Britons to send these to a recycling centre.

By 2025, most countries in the world have set a target of eliminating single-use plastics and producing only 100 percent recycled, reusable, and biodegradable plastics.
