A person can easily become infected with the delta coronavirus without a mask. This was stated by Sergey Netesov, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Bionanotechnology, Microbiology and Virology, Novosibirsk State University (NSU), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to him, if a person does not wear a mask, then this risk becomes at least twice as high. The scientist noted that the previous version of the coronavirus had an average reproductive number of about 3, and that of the “delta” version – about 5.
He added that the rate of the reproductive number of viruses has been known for many years. However, it is not easy to measure, for which you need to collect statistics.
Netesov is also sure that reports that many patients have had coronavirus several times have no basis. According to him, most of them were infected only once. Netesov said that there are at least four infections, the symptoms of which are similar to coronavirus, in particular, the loss of smell and taste.
