Scientists call loss of appetite symptom of omicron strain infection

by time news

British scientists have found that loss of appetite may indicate a disease with the omicron strain of coronavirus. This symptom of infection with a new variant of COVID-19 was reported by the Daily Express, citing a study by specialists from the medical company ZOE and analysts from King’s College London.

The researchers also attributed cognitive dysfunction, which often occurs in patients with omicron, to unusual symptoms.

Common signs of infection with the new strain included symptoms such as a runny nose, headache, fatigue, sneezing and sore throat. At the same time, only half of the infected complained of high body temperature, cough and loss of smell.

Earlier in Britain, the appearance of a rash was called a symptom of the omicron strain in children. British physician David Lloyd said that rashes have always appeared in a small proportion of patients with COVID-19, but with the advent of the omicron, an unusual rash began to appear in almost 15% of children.

On December 13, the UK reported the world’s first death as a result of infection with the omicron strain.

The omicron coronavirus strain has already been found in 89 countries. Such data as of December 16 are provided by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the organization, the number of new cases of omicron-strain disease doubles within one and a half to three days.

The omicron strain was discovered in southern Africa in the first decade of November. According to the World Health Organization, this variant of the virus has 32 mutations – more than all previously known. These changes increase the infectivity of omicron, enhance its binding to receptors, potentially increase the level of penetration into human cells and affect the increase in infectivity, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova said earlier. In Russia, it was first recorded on December 6 in people who arrived from South Africa.
