Scientists discover technique to make skin 30 years (!) younger

by time news

Researchers at the Babraham Institute, affiliated with the University of Cambridge, have developed the technique. What exactly do they do? Reprogram skin cells to make them look and act younger.

Skin Rejuvenation Key to Disease Treatments

The scientists did a test with the skin of a 53-year-old woman. After the treatment, her skin had the quality of that of a 23-year-old. The skin was firmer and more elastic and wounds healed better.

The researchers speak of a breakthrough, because they now have a better understanding of how aging works at the molecular level. This research therefore not only influences how we look in the future, it may eventually also help rejuvenate other parts of the body, such as our brains. The larger goal is to develop treatments for, among other things, diabetes and heart disease.

Need more research

The discovery doesn’t just mean hallelujah. Rejuvenating cells increases the risk of cancer. More research is therefore needed before this method leads to a treatment.

Until then, this trick from makeup artist Carmen Zomers will help you look younger.
