On August 30-31, the XV anniversary scientific conference will be held in Kazanlak
“Problems and studies of the Thracian culture”. The creation of this high scientific forum was provoked by the great discoveries of the archaeologist Georgi Kito in the Kazanlak region, which he himself called the “Valley of the Thracian Kings”.
Kitov discovered many tombs and golden treasures, which, together with the famous Kazanlak tomb, show the splendor of the largest state of the Thracians – the Odris kingdom in the last centuries of the old era.
And today, thanks to the efforts of the Municipality of Kazanlak, all the discovered monuments have been socialized through European projects worth millions of euros, and in 2024 the Archeological Complex was completed, where a huge scale model 1:10 of the capital of the Odra Kingdom – Sevtopolis – was exhibited.
The materials from the “Problems and Studies of Thracian Culture” conferences are published regularly with the funds of Iskra Historical Museum and Kazanlak Municipality. But the upcoming conference will go down in history as a very important scientific forum, because it has a separate international panel, where extremely interesting questions about the influences of the great Persian culture in antiquity will be discussed.
For this purpose, three reports will be presented on the Bulgarian side – by Prof. Zdravko Dimitrov, head of the Ancient Archeology Section at NAIM-BAS, by Prof. Ivo Topalilov, head of the Center for Tracology at the Institute of Balkan Studies-BAS and Honorary Professor of Stopanska Academy “Dimitar Tsenov”-Svishtov, Doctor of Historical Sciences Nikolay Ovcharov. They will examine all aspects of Persian influences in the Balkans from
the kingdom of the Achaemenids before the new era, through the sanctuaries of the Persian god Mithras in the Roman period, to the contacts of the proto-Bulgarians with the high civilization of Sassanid Iran in the first centuries AD.
It is very important that two of the most famous Iranians are also coming to the high forum
ancient history specialists. They are Professors Ruhollah Yousefi Zoshk and Masood Ahmadi Afzadi. They will introduce their colleagues from Bulgaria, as well as the entire Bulgarian public, to the latest discoveries of Iranian archaeology. This will be a look at the great, but little known in our country, Persian culture, which gave a lot to human civilization.
