Scientists from Boston Children’s Hospital have created a neurosurgical robot that is controlled via a joystick.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.Ru, the results of the work are described in the journal Science Robotics.

The robot has two limbs called “arms” that can cut tumors, hold the incision site and suck up excess fluids and tissue. The device has remote control. In the trial, two neurosurgeons were able to remove a tumor in a four-month-old infant model faster than using hand instruments, and without putting pressure on nearby brain tissue.

In addition, the development allows you to work with unplanned situations, for example, to eliminate sudden bleeding and monitor the presence of remnants of a malignant neoplasm.

The robot is planned to be used to remove large vascularized tumors and cysts, to treat hydrocephalus (accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain), as well as for transurethral endoscopic procedures to eliminate bladder tumors.
