Scientists have named the categories of people who are at risk of re-infection with coronavirus

by time news

American scientists analyzed the database of US electronic medical records and identified patients who re-infected with coronavirus, according to the medRxiv.org server. The analysis was conducted by researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. They found 23 patients who had re-infection.

The average age of these patients was 64.5 years, most of them were smokers, were obese, hypertensive and diabetic. With the help of genomic analysis, it was possible to find out that we are talking specifically about re-infection, and not about the latent course of the initial disease.

The interval between infections averaged 101 days. 70% of patients were hospitalized during both infections. The authors of the study concluded that re-infection is no less difficult than the first. People with weakened immunity, with renal failure, alcoholic liver damage, cancer and after organ transplants are most at risk of infection.

Scientists also came to the conclusion that those who have undergone coronavirus in a mild or asymptomatic form can become infected again, but the infection will not be difficult. However, this does not apply to those who have had a hard time with the coronavirus for the first time.
