In other cities I have known the bridges that cross currents and join the separate banks. Rivalries arise from this position, bridges reduce them.
Cities, civilizations have sprung up by rivers. Naples risen near fires, between the Phlegraean Fields, flaming for the meaning of origin, and his majesty the volcano.
Naples used canals, aqueducts, rainwater cisterns.
The river can overflow, the sea cannot. It takes a tidal wave to displace it.
Seaside cities are more beautiful than riverside cities: this is how my image of beauty was formed. It also seems strange to me that the Neapolitan has the word sciummo for something he does not know.
A song, at least one, mentions it in the title, but serves as a metaphor: L’ammore sciummo ca se perdente a mare. So remember that rivers have their source and mouth, while the sea does not.
