RICHMOND HILL, Queens – A 25-year-old man riding a scooter went on a shooting spree across Queens and Brooklyn, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. Thomas Abreu has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.

The incidents began at around 11:10 a.m. when Abreu reportedly shot a 21-year-old man in the shoulder near the intersection of Ashford Street and Arlington Avenue in Brooklyn. The victim was taken to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.

Seventeen minutes later, 86-year-old Hamoo Saeidi was found with a gunshot wound to his back in front of 108-19 Jamaica Avenue in the Richmond Hill section of Queens. Despite being rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, Saeidi tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Witnesses later reported seeing a man on a scooter randomly firing shots into a group of people at the intersection of 108th Street and Jamaica Avenue in Queens. Fortunately, no one was harmed in this particular incident.

At 11:35 a.m. at Hillside Avenue and 126th Street, a 44-year-old man was shot in the face and is currently in critical condition at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Two minutes later, a 63-year-old man was shot in the right shoulder at Jamaica Avenue and 134th Street. He is in stable condition.

Additionally, a sixth shooting incident was discovered, with a 40-year-old man being targeted at the intersection of Jamaica Avenue and 131 Street. Thankfully, the victim escaped without injuries as the suspect fled the scene.

NYPD Acting Police Commissioner Edward Caban commended the efforts of the NYPD officers, who quickly apprehended Abreu in Queens shortly after 1 p.m. Caban acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating that the 9mm handgun recovered from Abreu had an extended magazine, indicating the high level of violence he was willing to commit.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Abreu had only one prior arrest for a traffic violation.

The NYPD actively engaged the community by sharing the suspect’s image to officers on the streets, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest.

As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The motive behind the shootings remains unclear.

The residents of Queens and Brooklyn are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
