These robbers were attacking with lightning speed. Six men aged 30 to 41 were placed in pre-trial detention, suspected of having committed a series of attacks in bakeries in the capital, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne. They were indicted on April 7, in Paris.

This team traveled on scooters, always using the same method. Two hooded men burst into the business, sometimes threatening the employee with a knife. While one kept watch, the other took control of the artisan’s recipe. They then fled on two wheels, weaving through traffic.

The suspects come into the crosshairs of the specialized investigators of the territorial security of Paris after having attacked, twice, the beautiful bakery Meunier, place d’Italie (XIIIe), on December 1 and 6.

A team scattered throughout Île-de-France

The thieves manage to seize more than 21,000 euros, mostly in cash, and a little in restaurant tickets. The police are carrying out investigations by noting the video surveillance images and working on the telephone boundary before identifying the six men.

“The investigators attribute to them five other acts committed in Paris in the 16th arrondissement, in Tremblay-en-France (Seine-Saint-Denis), in La Courneuve and one in the Val-de-Marne, in Villiers-sur-Marne. On April 4, the police launched an arrest operation and surprised the six Algerian and Tunisian nationals at their homes in Ris-Orangis (Essonne), Noisy-le-Grand, Vitry-sur-Seine and Ivry-sur-Seine. They are placed in custody in the premises of the Paris security.

During the hearings, only the oldest confessed. His five accomplices all denied despite the evidence presented to them during forty-eight hours face to face with the police.

The bakeries, privileged targets

Bakeries are one of the last businesses where coins and banknotes circulate in large quantities: 50% of transactions are still made in cash. At night, in the Paris region, burglaries of these businesses are increasing. “The burglars are often unaccompanied minors who are often caught in the act,” explains a police commissioner from the Ile-de-France.

As in this failed heist in Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne), on the night of February 19 to 20. A trio is then surprised by the anti-crime brigade in a bakery on avenue Anatole-France. A month earlier, the saleswoman of the one on rue Julien-Grimaud had been robbed for 10 euros… And in Tremblay-en-France (Seine-Saint-Denis), still in January, two hooded men kidnapped three employees of the bakery to demand checkout. The police are encouraging craftsmen to protect themselves by encouraging payment by credit card and investing in an iron curtain.
