Scott Finn, Adult Film Star, Dies at 27 Following Personal Struggles
The adult film industry is mourning the loss of Scott Finn, whose real name was Rhett Messerly, who died on November 23 at the age of 27. His passing comes after a period of acknowledged personal hardship, including a recent divorce.
Messerly’s family described him as a deeply popular and accepting individual in an online obituary, noting his “immense capacity for accepting people for who they are.” No official cause of death has been released.
In a final social media post shared on X on June 18, Finn alluded to the difficulties he was facing. “Itss [sic] been a hard life the last year and a half with the devorce [sic] but im finally single again its been a while sence [sic] ive showed my fave [sic] so here you are,” he wrote, accompanying the message with a shirtless selfie.
Finn entered the adult entertainment industry in 2018, becoming known for his work on platforms catering to gay audiences, including Active Duty and Next Door Studios. He openly discussed his bisexuality and frequently confronted online harassment from individuals who questioned his sexuality.
In 2020, responding to accusations of being “gay-for-pay,” Finn stated, as reported by Q Salt Lake, “Lol you have no idea who I am. I’m a sexual f–ker. I like men and wemon [sic]… I’ve had sex with one female in the last 3 years. And about 100 men.”
In the year prior to his death, Finn began to transition away from adult film work, establishing new social media accounts dedicated to his passion for cooking. This shift signaled a desire for a different path, a move his family acknowledged in their tribute.
Finn’s family remembered him as a “goofball” and a “schmoozer,” highlighting his ability to bring joy to those around him. A memorial service was held on December 4. “We find some comfort in knowing his pain here is over and he rests with his Heavenly Father again,” his parents, Joel and Libby Messerly, wrote in the obituary.
He attended Weber High School in Pleasant View, Utah, where he was affectionately known as “the ‘goofball’ to his peers, the ‘handsome boy with nice muscles’ to all the girls.” The obituary further recalled that “He always had a way of bringing a smile and laughter to those who knew him.”
Beyond his public persona, Finn was remembered for his compassion and willingness to help others. His family noted his particular empathy for women in need, recounting instances where he assisted them with tasks like digging out cars from the snow, providing meals, and ensuring their safety.
The family’s obituary playfully described Finn as “quite the schmoozer,” adding that “you could bet that he had at least 65 girlfriends at all times.” This lighthearted anecdote underscores the vibrant and memorable character he was to those who knew him.
