In the 23rd round of the Admiral Bundesliga, which is also the first matchday of the qualifying round, the duel SCR Altach vs. Austria Vienna is on the program. A week after narrowly missing out on qualifying for the championship group, can the violets in the Ländle shake off the disappointment, live up to their role as favorites and achieve a three-pointer?
Flashback: It was definitely not the Vienna Violets’ best game of the season so far. Since the results of the other games in Klagenfurt and Hartberg “spoke against the Vienna Violets”, the Vienna Violets remained in seventh place after the regular round. We narrowly missed qualifying for the championship group. The season goal of participating in the European Cup is still possible. However, the qualification group now involves “extra work” because 4 teams definitely have “nothing to give away” in the relegation battle, on the contrary. For them, it’s about survival in sport. The same applies to today’s host, SCR Altach.
The Vorarlbergers are in third place in the qualifying group table. However, this is not a reason for peace and security! The hosts’ lead over bottom team Austria Lustenau is only four points! With the win against Blau-Weiß Linz, the bottom of the table is definitely on the rise. The fact is that you have to keep scoring points in the championship group to avoid being dragged even deeper into the relegation battle. In the fight to stay in the league, the direct duels between the “bottom 4” in the qualification group will probably make the difference. “Bonus points” against the top duo (Austria, WAC) could provide peace of mind for this venture. The game itself will show whether this sporting endeavor is successful.
At this point, let’s focus on the sporting action, i.e. on the lawn of the Cashpoint Arena.
