Security experts have identified a new Android malware that can steal your one-time password (OTP). This malware can steal your bank account login ID, password credentials by recording your phone screen. In such a situation, this malware can be very dangerous. Not only this, this Android malware can also control your smartphone.

Identified in the year 2019

A recent report by Kaspersky and Cleafy highlights a dangerous malware attacking Android users. According to the report, updated versions of popular apps like Spotify and WhatsApp could be gateways to the Necro Trojan. This malware was first discovered in 2019.

App downloaded more than 1 crore times

Kaspersky has issued an alert, according to which the Trojan third party app and Wuta Camera app have been downloaded about 1 crore times. Necro Trojan installs unnecessary apps and displays advertisements without the user’s permission. It is designed to take paid subscriptions. Kaspersky advises that Android smartphone users avoid downloading apps from unofficial sources. Also, be careful with the apps available on Google Play.

Beware of fake Chrome browser

Cleafy has identified an unclassified Android banking Trojan that is spread through fake Chrome browser updates. Once installed, the app can perform actions like OTP theft, record screen and track logged keystrokes.

How to protect yourself

  • Only download apps from official stores.
  • Stay away from apps that ask for unnecessary permissions. Keep checking your apps from time to time. If any app seems sensitive, then delete it.
  • Never install apps from third party sources.

Note – Kaspersky and Cleafy’s report advises to be cautious while installing apps from Google App Store. Also, it is advised to avoid installing third party apps.
