Emmerich, [Date] – The foyer of the Emmerich Vital Medical Center is currently showcasing a captivating exhibition of sculptures created by Kees Donkers, a retired advertising artist from Netterden, the Netherlands. Running until the end of July, the exhibition showcases Donkers’ three-dimensional works, which are crafted from an unusual material – cutlery.

Donkers explained, “For my sculptures, I use cutlery that I find at flea markets. I leave the origin and the personal initials of the former owner visible.” The unique approach to his art adds a touch of authenticity and personal history to each piece.

The exhibition at Emmerich Vital is a result of the EMOJI initiative, an effort aimed at fostering cross-border cooperation in the region between the city of Emmerich and the neighboring Dutch cities of Montferland and Oude IJsselstreek. The initiative encourages collaboration between citizens, companies, and organizations across borders.

Tim Terhorst, responsible for cross-border cooperation at the city of Emmerich, expressed his satisfaction with the cultural collaboration. “Many amateur or semi-professional artists in our region are always looking for exhibition opportunities – even across the border. We are very pleased that we have succeeded in such a cross-border cultural cooperation here in the health center for the first time,” he stated, extending his gratitude to Ira-Saskia Monz (Center Management Emmerich Vital) and Christa van Dee for arranging the contact.

During the exhibition’s opening, Donkers introduced the three large works of art to the attendees. “As a rule, I choose a topic for my work that is current and thought-provoking,” explained Donkers. Among the sculptures showcased are “Corona” – a large monitor lizard with flowers and viruses in its mouth, “3 Wise Men,” and “Freedom.” These remarkable sculptures were created using commercially available spoons, knives, and forks.

Local hobby artists from Emmerich and the surrounding area who are interested in exhibiting their work on the Dutch side are encouraged to reach out to Christa van Dee by email at [email protected] or by phone at 0031 6 120 60 820. As a border broker within the framework of the EMOJI initiative, Christa facilitates connections between German and Dutch artists.

The exhibition by Kees Donkers highlights the richness of artistic talent in the region and emphasizes the benefits of cross-border collaboration. Visitors are invited to witness these impressive sculptures at the Emmerich Vital Medical Center before the end of July.
