Minister Douglas Devananda has said that he is pleased with the investigations carried out by the Human Rights Commission after paying attention to the complaints made by some people regarding the sea farms set up in the north.

Commenting further on this matter, he said, “The relevant investigations have made me realize some things. “We will not make any efforts to obtain the necessary permits. It has been decided to remove all the trawl nets and offshore farms that have been arbitrarily set up in Sri Lankan waters and to regulate all business activities in accordance with the relevant regulations,” he said.

Sea Farm Permit

Minister Douglas Devananda has commented on the news that NAKDA official said that although there are about 400 seafood farms in Kilinochchi district, permission has been given to only two farms.

“Regarding the said news, we have discussed with the concerned authority and how many farms have been given permission in the Kranchi area where the complaint was made?” – The Minister of Fisheries said that instead of the question asked, he replied that permission had been given to two farms and the said officer clarified to him that no questions were asked regarding Kilinochchi district.

He said that he believed that wrong ideas had been irresponsibly expressed by some people who did not understand the investigation process properly.
