Sean Neave Late Goal Secures Wolves Comeback Win Over Bristol City

Bristol City took the lead in the 34th minute when Scott Twine was fouled 25 yards out and scored from the resulting free-kick, according to Skysports. Twine rose to fire an unstoppable right-footed free-kick that curled away from Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa’s dive and into the top corner. City had defended with tenacity to protect that lead, though they were tested throughout the evening, including a 61st-minute moment where Brad Collins spilled a shot from Rafiki Said before recovering to smother a follow-up attempt from Adam Armstrong.

Neave secures late turnaround

Wolves manager Cesar Peixoto had made a triple change in the 73rd minute, introducing Mateus Mane, Neave, and Tommy Doyle to increase the intensity. The move proved decisive. After 82 minutes, Kieran Trippier volleyed a cross from the right that led to a saved Adam Armstrong shot, allowing Neave to pounce and net the rebound. The victory extended Wolves’ unbeaten run to five matches and brought their tally to 27 points from 14 games, leaving them just one point behind league-leaders Middlesbrough.

Following the match, Peixoto praised his team’s second-half response, noting that they had been too anxious in the first half. He credited the substitutes for their impact and highlighted the need for more direct attacks into the space between the center back and full back.

The second half, the team went [out] with soul and more aggression, played more direct attacks and attacked in the spaces. The players from the bench helped push the team until the end. [It was] very, very important that they went out in the right way, with the right mentality. We scored the two goals, and I think we deserved the win.

For Bristol City, Skubala lamented the late defensive lapses. The City boss had made two changes from the side that beat Bolton 3-2, bringing in Twine and striker Sam Bell, while Wolves had been forced to replace the injured Jordan James with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde. Skubala described the goals conceded as “soft” and noted that his side made poor decisions in the final third.

We fell to a sucker punch. The goals were soft from our perspective and we could have been stronger to prevent the second in particular. But there were also occasions when we made poor decisions in the opposition half and were loose in our possession of the ball.
