A teacher is still suspected of being under the rubble, after the collapse of a building on Wednesday in the 5th arrondissement.

Forty-eight hours will have been necessary to relaunch the search in rue Saint-Jacques, located in the 5th arrondissement, informs us The Parisian. This district was the victim of an impressive explosion this Wednesday, June 21. In order to secure the surrounding perimeter, the search had been suspended on Friday June 23, “for security reasons linked to a risk of collapse requiring the intervention of specialists to consolidate the building”, had thus justified the police headquarters of Paris.
The powerful explosion destroyed the administrative premises of Paris American Academy (PAA), a design and fashion school located in the former entrance pavilion of the Val-de-Grâce abbey. One of the school’s teachers, Anne B., is still missing. “Investigators had the list and photos of the victims they were looking for, and they found everyone except my wife. She is nowhere”, explained her husband to the Parisian.

Among the victims of the explosion, six are in a particularly worrying state, including the president of the PAA, Peter Carman. The latter suffered severe burns covering approximately 85% of his body. “He’s a wonderful person. He has a great wit, a sense of humor, and is very personable and accommodating,” explained a former student.

The progress of the investigation corroborates for the moment the hypothesis of the gas leak. According to the first elements, Peter Carman had rushed to cut off the electricity after learning that a powerful smell of gas was spreading within the school. Work, in connection with the gas, had however been carried out in January. No link has yet been established between this site and the June 21 explosion.
