It’s been two years since the second season of “The White Lotus” ended in December 2022 — more than enough time for post-vacation depression to set in. Avid fans are looking forward to season 3 of “The White Lotus”. The good news is that it’s in the works. The bad news? It may take some time to check in.
“The White Lotus” premiered in July 2021 as a limited series set at the resort hotel in Hawaii. The miserable problems of privileged people (mostly white) stood in contrast to the daily humiliations suffered by the staff who served them. The show’s success in the ratings and on the awards circuit led to season 2, which shifted the location to Sicily and the focus on sex and power struggles.
Season 3 will feature a new cast and focus on a different theme as well as a new location. “I think the third season will be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality,” creator Mike White said in a behind-the-scenes video after the end of the second season. “It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
There were quite a few pieces of new information about the upcoming season. Unfortunately, one of those subtleties is the fact that our return to the hotel just isn’t going to happen in 2024. Here’s what we know about “The White Lotus” Season 3 so far.
The news of the release date of “The White Lotus” season 3
Although “The White Lotus” is returning for a third season, it won’t be on your TV for long. Although the last writers’ strike of 2023 came to an end in a relatively short amount of time, the concurrent SAG-AFTRA strike meant that work could not yet begin on the show’s final set of episodes. At that time, casting was still taking place and a script was not yet complete.
With that in mind, HBO released a statement via Variety to give fans a realistic date to expect that the show might eventually return. And that date isn’t until 2025, according to HBO and Max chairman and CEO Casey Blois.
“Season 3 of ‘White Lotus’ would probably have been shown in 2024, it’s 2025,” Blois told reporters at a press event, admitting that production was indeed affected by both the writers’ and actors’ strikes.
Obviously it’s quite far, a whole year, to be exact. In a few months, there will likely be a more specific release date window to look forward to. At the moment, however, it is still unknown.
Team Season 3 of ‘Hulutus Halban’
“The White Lotus” is an anthology series, so in each new season, there are new faces to see. Season 3 is no different, and there’s a whole host of new cast members you’ll see around the hotel.
In April 2023, Variety reported that Natasha Rothwell, who played spa manager Belinda Lindsey, would book another appearance in Season 3.
While “White Lotus” Season 3 may bring back some of the characters from the previous two seasons, Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) won’t be one of them since she died after shooting the gay mobsters and then falling off the yacht.
Although the decision to kill off a beloved character may seem strange, creator White said, “I thought, it would be so much fun to bring Tanya back because she’s such a great character, but maybe that’s the journey for her, a journey to death. Not that I really wanted to kill Tanya because I love Her as a character and obviously I love Jennifer, but I just felt that we were going to Italy, she is such a diva – a larger than life female archetype – we felt that we could invent our own operatic summary of Tanya’s life and her story.”

Welcome to White Lotus: Thailand!
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and HBO have announced that filming for Season 3 of “The White Lotus” is set to begin in February in Bangkok, Phuket and Koh Samui.
“We are proud to have stunning Thailand featured as the filming location for the upcoming and highly anticipated season of ‘The White Lotus,'” Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said in a press release.
“The Kingdom’s exotic natural beauty, rich historical sites and diverse landscapes are the perfect settings to share our fascinating culture, fantastic cuisine, leading health and luxury offerings, and most importantly our people and Thai hospitality.”
Although neither TAT nor HBO have confirmed the exact filming location, we can strongly guess that it will be at the Four Seasons Hotel. Season 1 was filmed at the Four Seasons Resort Maui in Wailea and Season 2 was filmed at Palazzo San Domenico, a five-star resort operated by Four Seasons in the Sicilian town of Taormina.
Fans have previously speculated that Season 3 could film at one of Thailand’s four Four Seasons properties. Two of them are in Koh Samui and Bangkok.

The second season of “The White Lotus” left the audience with many lingering questions, especially surrounding Greg and the shocking events that led to Tanya’s death. With that in mind, it looks like the next season may build on these happenings, especially to address a variety of unanswered questions at the end of the season.
The finale sparked intrigue about Greg’s true intentions towards Tanya, his mysterious phone call, and whether Porcia would ever confront him about how responsible he was.
As for the anticipated third season, creator White hinted at a change in setting and subject focus. While the first season delved into the dynamics of wealth and the second into the complexities of sexual relationships, season 3 is expected to explore themes of death and Eastern spirituality. This pivot could significantly change the mood of the series, but in a way that could eventually attract new eyes.
