The season is over for Sofia Goggia, 2022 Olympic downhill vice-champion. The 31-year-old Italian underwent surgery on Monday for a double fracture in her right leg.

The skier was injured during giant slalom training for the next World Cup event this weekend in Soldeu, Andorra. His right ski got stuck in a door. In her fall, she fractured the tibia and the malleolus of her right leg.

Several weeks of convalescence

In a press release, the Italian Winter Sports Federation specifies that the athlete underwent successful surgery in Milan. She will now have to observe a 40-day break period before beginning the active phase of her rehabilitation.

Sofia Goggia currently leads the downhill standings, which she has won in the last three seasons and four times in total. This winter, she won the Zauchensee downhill and the St. Moritz super-G. She has 24 World Cup successes and was Olympic downhill champion in 2018.
