The Beach: The plot of the second season

The second season of the series transports us to Crete in 1975, at a time when Greece is slowly leaving behind the darkness of the junta and democracy struggles to find its footing in the restructured Greek state. On the carved rocks of Matala, old and new characters coexist and seek their identity in a rapidly changing world.

At the same time, a dark story from the period of the German Occupation surfaces, threatening once again to haunt the present. A story that everyone knew to some extent but consciously chose to forget, and those who lived it and survived will sooner or later seek revenge.

The return of Pavlos (Dimitris Kitsos) to his ancestral land and his acquaintance with Ifigeneia (Aphrodite Liantou) will bring to light a forbidden but simultaneously passionate love. Pavlos tries to take power into his own hands, while Ifigeneia seeks to maintain it. One cannot succeed without the other failing.

The series “The Beach” returns for a second season full of intrigue, emotions, and surprises. An ode to Crete, to the beauty of nature, and to the power of forbidden love.

The continuation of the beloved series promises to be even more exciting, with the old heroes facing new challenges and new characters bringing fresh air to the story.

What secrets could be hidden in the hidden waters of Matala?

The series is inspired by the original idea of Penelope Kourzi and Avgi Vagia and by the book “The Girl with the Snail” (Psychogios Publications) by Penelope Kourzi.

Let’s meet the new characters of the series “The Beach”

Ifigeneia Toufexi (Aphrodite Liantou): Ifigeneia is a young woman quite liberated for the time in which she lives, passionately fighting for her desires and dreams without getting trapped in her family’s will and social conventions. She studied shipping and economics in London and, although she has not yet clarified what she wants to do in her life, she leaves open the possibility of engaging in shipping in the future. Her relationship with Pavlos (Dimitris Kitsos) begins passionately, leading both into an irreversible romantic whirlwind.

Thisbe Toufexi (Alexia Kaltsiki): Thisbe Toufexi, hailing from a bourgeois family in Piraeus, saw her wealth significantly increase after marrying Christos Toufexis. Although they live separate lives, they maintain the appearance of unity for the sake of their children and their professional image. Thisbe is tough and aggressive, often making decisions for the family and their businesses. Her assertiveness causes discomfort to Christos, while her conflictual relationship with her daughter Ifigeneia often leads to confrontations between the two women.

Christos Toufexis (Kostas Kappas): Christos Toufexis has managed to expand their wealth through his shipping activities. Despite their different lives, Christos and Thisbe appear united for the sake of their children and their professional image. Christos relies on his employees and is more hesitant in professional and family matters. He often acquiesces to issues concerning their daughter, Ifigeneia, attempting to maintain peace in the family.

Apostolos Toufexis (Christos Krayiopoulos): Apostolos is the youngest son of the Toufexis family and the artist of the family. He is sensitive and diametrically opposed to his parents. His mother is tougher on him, while his father does not trust him because of his romantic choices, which is confirmed when Apostolos returns to Matala with his new partner.

Sophie (Denia Stasinopoulou): Sophie is a young French hippie who appears in the area. Having an autistic brother, she has developed the ability to manage people on the spectrum with calmness and understanding. She develops an unexpected relationship with Dimitros.

Berta (Syrmo Kekes): Berta is a young Belgian hippie who appears in the area. A mysterious woman, tough, and unyielding, Berta arrives in Matala with a hidden agenda that will soon threaten to disrupt the peace of the area.

Aria (Irini Gioti): Aria, a captivating and serene Danish woman, arrives in the village as Gratos’ new partner, whom she met during one of his trips to Copenhagen. Aria follows Gratos back to his homeland, ready and settled to start a new chapter in her life with him, unaware of the challenges and twists that await her.

Judith (Andriana Saranti): Seemingly laid-back and with a hippie ideology, Judith is, in reality, a woman who has come to the area with a hidden agenda and a specific goal to extract information from the residents.

Amy (Euthalia Papakosta): Amy is a strong woman with great ambition and abilities who works as a lawyer. Her relationship with Pavlos represents a multidimensional choice: she sees him as a financial solution to her father’s problems, while at the same time, she considers him a “catch” due to his financial ease. She is very energetic and proactively addresses problems in her relationship with Pavlos, sensing from the beginning the threat posed by Ifigeneia.

Yakovos Gerontakis (Alkis Bakogiannis): Yakovos is the pampered and sheltered child of the Gerontakis family, polite, but clearly awkward in his social skills. His parents, wanting to secure a good financial alliance, attempt to matchmake him with Ifigeneia. Yakovos accepts their plan and awkwardly tries to win Ifigeneia’s heart, even though he realizes his chances are slim.
