The department provides paid public works all year round. But the nature of the work in most cases depends on the time of year. As a rule, autumn is the harvest of tomatoes, potatoes, apples and other seasonal fruits.

Deputy Head of the Department – Head of the Department of Control and Legal Work and Ensuring Employment Promotion Valentina Prykhodko said that at the moment, registration for public works is in full swing.

– These works are public activities that do not require additional professional training and have socially useful significance. First of all, such activities provide an opportunity for the unemployed to join social and working life and receive payment for work performed.

The specialist noted that the desire to sign up for seasonal part-time work is expressed not only by unemployed citizens, but also by those who are actively looking for a main job, as well as employed people in order to receive additional income. Many people take a special vacation to earn extra money. And you can make some good money here. Basically, the payment for a “day” spent picking vegetables or fruits is about 40 rubles.

Currently, citizens who are registered with the department as unemployed and citizens who are on leave without pay can take part in paid public works provided by city enterprises. Today these are the municipal unitary enterprise “Brest Specialized Enterprise”, “Brest Waste Recycling Plant”, “Territorial Center for Social Services for the Population of the Leninsky District of Brest”. These organizations offer community service throughout the year.

Agricultural enterprises in Brest and the region, as a rule, provide the opportunity for part-time work depending on the season. Now OJSC “Young Guard”, OJSC “Agro-Sad “Rassvet”, “Peasant Farm Beresteyskoe” and “Peasant Farm Shulyak N.B.” are active in this regard.

In autumn, tomatoes, apples and potatoes are harvested here. Payment is made once a week or once a day. The Young Guard employs wages in kind, i.e. payment in product, namely potatoes. A worker receives 40 kg of potatoes per day. Already this week, the list of works will be replenished with harvesting onions, beets and carrots.

– On average, about 80 people are sent from the department to paid work per day. The employment service organizes the transportation of people to the work site and back. The bus picks people up at 8.00 from the employment service building and arrives back after 17.00,” said Valentina Prikhodko.

Valentina Ivanovna noted that at the moment, the employment service receives significantly more applications than there are jobs that the department is able to provide for citizens. In turn, farms are fully prepared to accept seasonal workers.

It must be said that in the autumn, most of those who want to participate in seasonal work are people over fifty years old. While summer is a time of activity for students seeking to earn extra money during the holidays. Unemployed citizens are a separate category that takes part in public works throughout the year. Pensioners are especially active in harvesting. About 50% of all people sent to farms are Brest residents of retirement age.
