Sebastian Ofner got off to a good start in Monte Carlo

Sebastian Ofner is in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo. And that after a convincing performance: Ofner defeated Daniel Evans 6:1 and 6:4 – and can now look forward to a duel with Alexander Zverev. The German had a bye in round one.

The match got off to a difficult start for Ofner, who had to really fight for his very first service game. After that, things went like clockwork for the Styrian, the first round was over quickly. In the second act, Evans improved and became more and more offensive, especially on his own serve. But Sebastian Ofner brought an early break over the distance.

Ofner against Zverev still without winning a set

Towards the end, however, things got exciting again: Ofner served at 5:4 in the second set to win the match and led 30:0. Evans won three points in a row – and missed a forehand passing shot by just millimeters.

Sebastian Ofner has lost all three previous matches against Alexandxer Zverev: in Wimbledon in 2017 and in Roland-Garros in 2022, Zverev won without losing a set, just as he did last year in round one of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.
