On Wednesday evening, Stefan Raab entered direct competition with “TV total” and Sebastian Pufpaff with his new RTL show. He did not leave this uncommented.
After celebrating his TV comeback in the RTL boxing ring against Regina Halmich, Stefan Raab issued a challenge to his former home broadcaster ProSieben last Saturday. The entertainer announced that he would be going on air with a new show – at the same time as “TV total”.
On Wednesday, “Du gewinnst hier nicht die Million” started at 8:10 p.m. on RTL+, five minutes later Sebastian Pufpaff went on air on linear television – and directly alluded to his new show competitor. Right at the start of “TV total” he imitated Raab’s much-noticed appearance last weekend.
The 48-year-old was announced with the words: “Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, welcome to ‘TV total’. He was gone for seven days. We haven’t seen him for seven days. Nobody knows if he’s really coming. And if he is: what will he look like? Here is – but only maybe – Sebastian Pufpaff.”
The host entered, posed like a muscleman and strutted pathetically down the studio stairs. Sparklers were lit to the right and left. A parody of Raab’s big show fight on RTL.
Pufpaff was obviously keen not to leave the elephant in the room uncommented, but to exude routine. When discussing the duel, he finally moved on to the now resolved question of the CDU and CSU’s candidate for chancellor and other events.
Broadcasting his new RTL format at the same time as “TV total” was not Raab’s only attack on his former employer. He also poached the long-standing show band Heavytones, which was once put together for him and was seen at Pufpaff’s side just last week. The musicians are now Raab’s regular orchestra again and played in the “Du gewinnst hier nicht die Million” studio on Wednesday.
The “TV total” producers also took a humorous approach to this. Pufpaff was filmed looking distraught in front of the empty Heavytones dressing room. “Where is the band?” he asked and was answered: “On RTL+.” Pufpaff: “On RTL+? That’s not TV. Where can I get a band now? Ah, we’re going to the musicians’ street.” He was shown driving a van across the city and allegedly picking up musicians at random: a homeless person in a car, a man on a kebab skewer, a recently released prisoner or street musicians. He eventually hired Jan Klinkenberg as band leader via a kind of Tinder app.
The keyboard player, pianist and producer is one of the most successful show band musicians in Germany. He has worked with Helene Fischer, Sarah Connor, Bill and Tom Kaulitz, Stefanie Heinzmann and Teddy Teclebrhan, among others. The new show band is apparently called Klinken Supremes.
