The 4th Oral Criminal Court of Santiago unanimously decided to acquit the former policeman Sebastian Zamora, who was charged with simple attempted homicide in the Pio Nono case.
The magistrate Patricia Brundlwho was in charge of reading the verdict, determined that “it is not approved the specific charge“, for which the Prosecutor’s Office accused the former police officer.
The Court’s decision has generated various reactions in public opinion, highlighting the emotional response of Sebastián Zamora, who broke down in tears upon learning of the judicial decision.
In this regard, the defense attorney, Alejandro Peña, said that “Sebastian never wanted to harm the young man, but rather to fulfill the duty of the Carabineros to proceed in the face of a flagrant crime.”
In this context, the father of the former carabiniere went further and demanded that President Gabriel Boric apologize to his son. “President Boric, in 2020 you were a congressman, you are the first one who should apologize to Sebastián, because he called him a criminal, that it was a criminal act and he tried to kill Anthony, and that was never the case,” he said.
“Many of those people who were deputies at that time are now in the Government, Boric, Camila Vallejo, many others (…) Mayor Jadue who is currently in preventive detention, the truth is that They owe him (Sebastian) and his family many apologies”he added.
He also reaffirmed his son’s intention to rejoin the Carabineros: “He has always wanted to rejoin since this unfortunate event occurred, and now with even greater reason.”
