Classes remain suspended at the University of Antananarivo. The Union of Teacher-Researchers and Research-Teachers of Higher Education (Seces) Antananarivo section has not resumed its activities since last July. The union persists and signs and gives a new ultimatum to the State to respond to its demands.

The SECES gives the State until October 10 to satisfy their demands. Demands which relate in particular to the payment of overtime and shift arrears for the years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. Part-time workers who are not civil servants constitute the vast majority of teachers at Ankatso. The latter thus threaten to no longer return to classes before receiving their remuneration.

The Union is planning another general meeting this Friday, September 15 to agree on the continuation of its movement which has lasted for almost 5 months. On September 5, Seces teacher members in robes already held a sit-in at the Ankatso Esplanade.

The standoff between SECES and the supervisory ministry has been going on for years and is likely to continue for a long time. Between the incessant demands of the union and the lethargy of successive governments, the students are ultimately taken hostage.
