Second collective bargaining round underway for the railways | free press

After the strike, talks continue: The railway and transport union (EVG) is back at the negotiating table.

In the case of the railways, the second round of the ongoing collective bargaining dispute has started for a total of around 230,000 employees in 50 companies. The railway and transport union (EVG) started on Tuesday with the rail infrastructure company Ostniedersachsen (Sinon) from Celle, as both sides announced. As in the first round, the EVG wants to gradually negotiate with all other railway companies in the coming weeks.

The focus of the negotiations is Deutsche Bahn as the largest employer. However, the EVG does not want to meet her again until the end of April as part of the second round.

The first collective bargaining round at Bahn AG, which began at the end of February and continued in March after brief initial talks, had brought no rapprochement. A nationwide warning strike followed on Monday, with which EVG, together with Verdi, paralyzed large parts of public transport. The EVG demands at least 650 euros more per month for all employees or 12 percent for higher incomes.

Among other things, Deutsche Bahn had offered to raise the wages of the approximately 180,000 employees affected by a total of 5 percent in two steps: in a first step by 3 percent from December of this year, in a second by 2 percent from August 2024 Group two tax-free one-off payments of 1500 euros in May and 1000 euros in January of the coming year.

The EVG criticized the offer as non-negotiable and rejected it. From their point of view, the issue of the minimum wage for some railway employees is also unresolved. They currently only receive the statutory minimum wage of twelve euros via an allowance. The union wants the minimum wage to be set in the pay scales before anything else can be negotiated substantively. (dpa)
