Although the popular proverb assures that second parts have never been better, the group exhibition “Loyal among us II”, inaugurated this Thursday, September 7 at the Carmen Montilla gallery in the Historic Center of Old Havana, denies such a statement by bringing together works from ten Cuban plastic artists who equal or far surpass those of last year on such a date, space and number of participants.

In a harmonious curatorship that combines works with photos of their authors together with Eusebio Leal Spengler, and his words about each of the exhibitors, the exhibition is dedicated to the 81st birthday of the Historian of Havana, when next Monday, September 11, the The City Museum houses the central tribute, precisely in the place where he began his battle for the restoration of the oldest part of the capital.

Dedicated to reflecting his legacy as a cultural manager, the exhibition that is part of the “Loyal Among Us II” project brings together Cuban painters of the stature Ileana Mulet, Silvia Rodríguez, Eduardo Abela, Manuel López Oliva, Andrés Retamero, the Ecuadorian Oswaldo Guayasamín and Nelson Domínguez (2009 National Award); the sculptors Jorge Jacas, Julio César Sáenz and José Villa Soberón (National Prize for Plastic Arts 2008).

Some phrases by Leal chosen for the exhibition, whose full texts the visitor will be able to appreciate on site, are: “Villa has been a cultivator of that Cuban and universal sculptural tradition”; López Oliva: “Man who knows that the only way to transcend is to create”; Ileana Mulet: “… who carries the city in his heart more than in the retina of his eyes”; Endres Retamero “…the very suggestive and personal way of capturing on the canvas what your heart sees more than your eyes.”

“Loyal among us I” brought together in 2022 Martha Jiménez, Ernesto Rancaño, Zayda del Río, Enrique Ávila, Alicia Leal, Eduardo Roca (Choco), Isavel Gimeno, Alfredo Sosabravo, Juan N. Quintanilla and Carmen Montilla,” the director recalled. from the gallery of the same name and leader of the program, Norma Jiménez, when announcing that next year there will be “Loyal among us III” an exhibition for which she is already receiving applications, she assured.

Just 24 hours ago, also in honor of the 81st birthday of the City Historian and the 15th anniversary of the Network of Offices of the Historian and Conservator of the Heritage Cities of Cuba, it opened to the public at the Rubén Martínez Villena public library (Plaza de Armas) the photographic exhibition “Beloved Homeland. Loyal in the heritage cities of Cuba” by the creators Raúl Abreu Acuña, Julio Larramendi, Modesto Gutiérrez, Patricio Chaviano del Sol, Raúl García Álvarez, among others.
