Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) on Wednesday announced the names of two more candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and has given ticket to Vaishali Darekar-Rane from Kalyan seat. All eyes are on Kalyan seat, from where state Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s son Shrikant Shinde is currently the MP. Along with this, the Uddhav Thackeray led party has so far declared the names of candidates for 21 seats in Maharashtra. Voting will be held in Maharashtra in five phases from April 19. While addressing the press conference, Thackeray declared Satyajit Patil as the candidate from Hatkanangale, Bharti Kamdi from Palghar and Karan Pawar from Jalgaon seat.
Cards not opened on Mumbai North
Thackeray said that if Congress, which is part of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), does not want to contest from Mumbai North seat, then Shiv Sena (UBT) will declare a candidate from that seat. BJP has made Union Minister Piyush Goyal its candidate from Mumbai North seat. Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena has not yet opened its cards regarding Kalyan seat.
It is noteworthy that Darekar-Rane had contested the 2009 election from Kalyan seat on Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) ticket against Shiv Sena candidate Anand Parampje. She stood third by securing 1.02 lakh votes. Thackeray said that Darekar-Rane and Bharti are grassroots workers of the Kamadi party.
BJP MP from Jalgaon Unmesh Patil may contest elections from Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, may leave the party tomorrow
Unmesh Patil came with Thackeray
Former Chairman of Parola Municipal Council of Jalgaon district, Karan Pawar on Wednesday joined Shiv Sena (UBT) along with sitting BJP MP Unmesh Patil and the party today declared him its candidate from Jalgaon seat. This time BJP did not give ticket to Unmesh Patil from Jalgaon, after which he joined Shiv Sena (UBT). BJP has given ticket to Smita Wagh in her place. Satyajit Patil’s candidature from Hatkanangale in western Maharashtra is being seen as a blow to Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathan’s Raju Shetty, who was seeking support from Thackeray to contest from this constituency. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that the party had told Shetty that he should contest the election on the Shiv Sena (UBT) symbol of ‘burning torch’, which he rejected. The current MP from Palghar seat is Rajendra Gavit of undivided Shiv Sena.
