What to do in the second round of the presidential election? This is the question that has been asked since Wednesday to the 310,000 supporters of Jean-Luc Mélenchon via an online consultation. While the votes were closed this Saturday at 8 p.m., it therefore appears that the supporters of the Insoumis leader were going to vote blank at 37.65% of the 215,292 votes cast for this second round identical to that of 5 years ago. The Macron vote comes next with 33.4% of the vote, ahead of abstention with nearly 29%.
In 2017, still, Jean-Luc Mélenchon had launched a similar consultation. The latter then resulted in a majority for the blank or null vote (36%), ahead of the vote for Emmanuel Macron (nearly 35%) and a little less than a third remaining speaking for abstention.
“Not a single voice for Madame Le Pen”
In the text that accompanied this consultation, the one who came 3rd at the end of the first round last Sunday explained in particular that the second round “will be resolved in defiance of our most fundamental repulsions. A presidency without moral authority will come out of it”. But, he added, the two finalists “are not equivalent.
