by time news

Today, February 20, around 14:00, a second train with citizens evacuated from the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR) will arrive in Voronezh, Kommersant was told in the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations. The state of emergency has been declared in the region.

At 9:00 am, the first train from the Rostov region arrived in the city with 910 passengers, of which 358 were children. The same number of arrivals is expected on the second train. The third train may arrive in Voronezh by 21:00, Kommersant was told in the regional government.

Residents of the LPR and DPR are placed in year-round children’s camps in Voronezh and the regions of the region. The first two municipal temporary accommodation centers are organized in the Blue Screen and Kirovets camps, which can accommodate 380 people. The authorities will provide linens, hot meals and personal protective equipment for arrivals. As Kommersant was told at the mayor’s office, people who arrived at the Blue Screen are currently being settled in buildings and fed with a hot breakfast.

Yesterday, February 19, the governor of the Voronezh region Alexander Gusev signed a decree on the introduction of a high alert regime in the region in connection with the arrival of residents of the DPR and LPR. In total, the region is ready to receive 4.5 thousand people and organize more than 40 temporary accommodation centers. Due to the increase in the number of arrivals in the region, a state of emergency has been introduced. The authorities emphasize that all life support systems in the region are working without failures.

The Nizhny Novgorod region collected and sent two trucks with humanitarian aid to the Rostov region, which is the first to receive evacuated residents of Donbass. According to Governor Gleb Nikitin, more than 40 tons of food and essential goods have been sent. “According to colleagues, first of all, it is necessary to provide the evacuees with hot meals. We sent cereals, pasta, canned food. Now we are evaluating how many people from the LPR and DPR we will be able to accept in the Nizhny Novgorod region, which sanatoriums and hotels should be used,” the governor said. The Nizhny Novgorod branch of the United Russia party opened an account to collect charitable donations to purchase humanitarian aid and send it to refugee accommodation.

The evacuation of women, children and the elderly to Russia from the LPR and DPR has been going on since February 18. The leaders of the self-proclaimed republics explain this with information about Ukraine’s plans to attack the LPR and DPR. Kiev denies this.
