The U.S. Secret Service has placed its Chief of Communications, Anthony Guglielmi, and two other employees from the agency’s communications office on administrative leave pending an investigation into potential misconduct. U.S. officials confirmed the action, which involves three non-law enforcement personnel.
Secret Service Places Communications Chief and Staff on Leave
As part of the internal review, the affected staff members have lost their security clearances and access to their government-issued work devices. According to officials, losing clearances and device access is common practice during internal probes conducted by the agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility.
In a statement regarding the personnel actions, the Secret Service stated, Three non-law enforcement personnel at the U.S. Secret Service have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into potential misconduct.
The agency declined to disclose the specific nature of the allegations or identify the two other staffers, noting that the incident is being reviewed per standard policy.

Guglielmi’s Record and Legal Representation
Anthony Guglielmi has served as the chief of communications for the Secret Service since March 2022. Prior to his tenure with the agency, he held communications roles with the Chicago Police Department and the Baltimore Police Department and has earned an Emmy award for his professional work. Later in 2022, Guglielmi testified before the House Jan. 6 committee regarding former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony.

The internal inquiry into the communications office unfolds while the Secret Service faces intense public and political scrutiny over a series of recent security challenges, operational reviews, and leak investigations.
Last month, the agency placed an agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance’s security detail on administrative leave amid an investigation into alleged information leaks to the press. That probe followed a report detailing agent frustrations over last-minute travel requests made by Vance and his family.
The Secret Service has also navigated scrutiny surrounding security protocols for President Donald Trump. In recent months, questions emerged regarding transportation arrangements and threats during international travel, including a reported operation in which Trump was secretly moved from Turkey via an alternate aircraft amid security concerns.
