Archaeologists have found a 4300-year-old mummy covered in gold. The mummy known as ‘Hekasheps’ is the oldest in Egyptian history.

The mummy was found at the bottom of a 50-foot pillar during excavations near Cairo. It was buried in an ancient stone coffin with a limestone door.

Hawass, the head of the research team, said, ‘A beautiful mummy of a man completely covered with layers of gold..’ This is the oldest mummy in the history of Egypt.

Another tomb belongs to a person who was the overseer and priest of the nobles during the reign of Unas, the last pharaoh of the Fifth Dynasty. Researchers have found the tomb of Meri, an official who was a keeper of secrets and an aide to an important leader in the palace, as well as many pottery vessels.
