Today, Sunday, John Lee was unanimously elected by a select committee of pro-Beijing pro-committee members.

John Lee has been elected the new leader of Hong Kong, a major player in the world economy, with a total of 1416 votes in favor and 8 against.

Following the victory, John Lee said it was his “historic task” to lead Hong Kong’s new chapter.

He said the integration of the city of Hong Kong would preserve its international status in an open manner and that the hub with greater economic competition would unite China and the rest of the world.

John Lee also said that securing Hong Kong’s sovereignty, national security, development interests, and securing Hong Kong from internal and external threats would continue to be important.
