Since the law that established the secular State in France, in 1905, no religious attribute of any creed can appear in the public space, which includes schools and administrative areas. France’s education minister on Friday ordered an administrative investigation after students in Nice (southeastern France) organized prayers at their school, which the city council said were Muslim. The issue is often exploited by the local extreme right to gain votes.
