Sedesa provides dental care to preschool and primary school students

The Health Secretary (Sedesa) local made more than a million 574 thousand preventive oral health activities in public schoolsbenefiting 184 thousand 503 girls and boys from preschool and primary school.

A team of dentists visited 603 educational institutions during the 2023-2024 school year, 103 preschools and 600 primary schools, where they carried out 166,485 and 1,407,741 preventive actions respectively, as explained by Dr. Luis Antonio Rodríguez Rosas, State Head of Oral Health of Mexico City.

“We provide children with preventive treatments such as fluoride varnish and talks about oral health care at their schools,” explained Rodríguez Rosas, adding that other activities carried out in Promotion and Prevention include brushing techniques, use of dental floss and detection of dental plaque, which are carried out four times during the school year free of charge.

The specialist said that preventive and curative clinical procedures are also carried out, since the goal is that within a period of 2 to 3 years the capital’s schools will be accredited as promoters of oral health and be free of cavities.

The doctor said that during visits, students are advised to brush their teeth after eating three times a day; not to eat too much sugar; and to go to the dentist for check-ups twice a year.
