The opening ceremony of the 33rd Summer Olympic Games takes place in Paris. High expectations were justified, because for the first time the show was not held in a stadium, but took place outdoors – in the very waters of the Seine River.
One by one, the boats of the delegations began to line up, starting with that of Greece, and then the refugee team. The rest of the countries are listed in alphabetical order. The show will end at Trocadero Square next to the Eiffel Tower.
The opening was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and IOC President Thomas Bach. The President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev was also on the podium together with his wife Desislava Radeva.
Although it was pouring rain, it did not wipe the smiles from the faces of the athletes or the spectators. The spectacular spectacle was accompanied by a light show, as well as dance and musical performances.
About 10,500 athletes will compete in 32 sports at the Olympics. The Bulgarian participation in the French capital starts tomorrow with the rowing, badminton, shooting, swimming, tennis and boxing competitions. In Paris, Bulgaria will be represented by 46 athletes in 16 sports.
