See who are the candidates for General Director of BNR

Seven people are the candidates for General Director of the BNR who submitted documents for participation in the competition organized by the Council for Electronic Media (CEM).

These are the current boss Milen Mitev, the former general director of the BNR Valery Todorov, the program director of radio “Focus” Iva Doichinova, the editor-in-chief of the Internet portal of the BNR Georgi Daskalov, Helia Chavdarova – producer and presenter in the BNR, the PR of radio “Fresh” Tsvetoslava Georgieva and Margarit Rusev, who is also from the national radio.

The tenure of the current director Milen Mitev expires October 31st. The lawyer takes over the radio as a temporary executive on August 4, 2021, after Andon Baltakov prematurely resigned. On October 27, 2021, Mitev was elected for a regular term. Two years later – on December 1, 2023, he was unanimously accepted as a member of the Governing Council of the European Radio and Television Union (EBU), and thus Bulgaria for the first time received a representative in the highest governing body there.

Valery Todorov was the General Director of the BNR in two consecutive terms from 2007 to 2013.

The famous journalist is a specialist on the subject of Russia, having been a correspondent of BNR and BTA in Moscow from 1993 to 1997. As head of the national radio, he created three new regional radio stations of BNR – in Sofia, Vidin and Burgas, as well as the first internet radio in our country – “Binar”.

Iva Doichinova is probably the journalist with the most recognizable radio voice.

Her career began in 1990 with the midday block “Tram “Desire” on FM+. There he is also the author and host of the morning show “Iva from morning to afternoon”. In 2018, he became the deputy editor-in-chief of the morning shows of “Hristo Botev”, and two years later – the head of Radio “Sofia”. Since January 2023, he has been the program director of radio “Focus”. Hers is the “Alarm Clock of the Year” initiative.

Georgi Daskalov is among the famous Bulgarian newspapermen.

He worked in “Demokratsia”, “24 chasa”, as he dreamed of making newspapers since he was a child. After that, his career continued in television and websites. He has been the editor-in-chief of the BNR internet portal for several years. He graduated in philosophy and law.

Helia Chavdarova is among the most famous voices of the BNR.

She is a music journalist and producer, host of the show “Tik-Tak” for 30 years, and several years of “Night Horizon”.

Tsvetoslava Georgieva has been a host on “Fresh” radio since its inception and became popular with the “Blonde Show” on its airwaves.

At the same time, it is a PR of the media. Graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at the University of Hilversum (Netherlands). He is the author of the first Bulgarian chicklit novel dedicated to pregnancy – “Password 9 months”.

Margarit Rusevwho is also running for the head of the BNR, is a music producer at Radio “Blagoevgrad”. Besides, the station is known for its good musical activity.

CEM has already formed a technical committee that will examine the documents of the candidates and by October 10 will announce those admitted to the next round of the competition. By October 14, it will be clear which of them will appear at the hearing.

The CEM’s choice of who will govern the BNR for the next 3 years will be made on October 17.
