the 2025 edition of Seeyousound promises a compelling blend of cinematic innovation and live musical experience, immediately signaling its artistic direction with two distinct events. The festival, known for its intersection of film and performance, will kick off on tuesday, March 3, at 8:30 PM at the Cinema Massimo in Turin.
Casino Royale Reimagined: A Live Cinema Experience
The opening night will feature “Casino Royale SOUND/VISION/SOUND,” an original production developed in collaboration between the band and the festival itself. this event transcends a traditional concert, weaving together live music, storytelling, and visual elements specifically designed for the cinematic space.
Alongside this centerpiece, the festival will showcase “Quarantine Scenario” (Italy, 60′, 2020), presented in a specially re-edited version for Seeyousound audiences. The film’s origins lie in a collaborative project born during the 2020 lockdowns. Musicians worldwide contributed to a soundtrack based on Casino Royale’s “Scenario” from their Polaris project, creating a global stream of sonic interpretations.Director Pepsy Romanoff then visually realized these sounds, assembling footage collected over years of travel to create a “fluid and dreamlike story” that reflects themes of connection and isolation.
Further expanding on the Casino Royale experience, the festival will also present “Sunrise in the West” (Italy, 39′, 2025) by Frankie Caradonna, a three-year project developed with Casino Royale and Overclock. This work is described as a “visionary journey into contemporary Milan,” blending cinema, documentary, music, and performance into an immersive experience.
Celebrating a Crossover Pioneer
The festival’s focus on Casino Royale is a tribute to the band’s pioneering role in Italian music. A senior official stated that the band served as a “bridge between underground subcultures, pop and electronic experimentations” during the late 1980s and 1990s. Their 1995 album, “Closer and closer,” is widely considered a landmark achievement for its fusion of Italian pop with electronic and dub influences. seeyousound aims to celebrate the band’s legacy of artistic independence with an event that will be remembered as a pivotal moment for both the festival and Casino Royale.
Bowie’s Final Act: A documentary premiere
the festival will conclude on Sunday, March 8, at 9:00 PM at Cinema Massimo with the international premiere of “Bowie: The Final Act” by Jonathan Stiasny. The documentary, presented with Stiasny in attendance, examines the final decades of David Bowie’s life and work, particularly focusing on his final album, Blackstar.
