SEGA released the Samba de Amigo DLC for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on September 25, 2025, delivering the final free content drop for the game’s first year.
Developed by Sonic Team, the mascot racer launched across major consoles and PC. The latest content pack introduces Amigo as a playable character alongside the character’s classic skin complete with a trademark sombrero.
Players can also use courses with the Locomotive de Amigo vehicle, accompanied by distinct sound files and special emotes including the VAMOS A CARNIVAL 2023 Version (Final Lap)
and Let’s Find And Shake It (Jukebox Only)
. The original Samba de Amigo rhythm game was created by Sonic Team and debuted in arcades back in 1999 before arriving on the Dreamcast in 2000, bringing its Latin American culture and maraca-shaking gameplay to Sega hardware.
Funding Online Support
In an interview with Automaton-Media, Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka explained that the studio wanted people to keep playing this title for years to come, prompting the post-launch update model. Because the racing title operates online, maintaining an active player base required frequent additions.

Iizuka noted that the team started out without thinking all that much about how we would make money from it, making the reliance on the model an important lesson learned for future online operations. This led SEGA to implement the Season Pass framework.
Releasing Avatar Legends
The Avatar Legends expansion is scheduled to debut on October 13, 2026, bringing Aang and Katara to the roster. Players traversing the new courses can utilize the Lion Turtle Island map alongside the Gliding Air vehicle, accompanied by specialized sounds, emotes, and decals.
SEGA scheduled a dedicated festival running from October 15 to October 18, 2026. Season Pass Two will introduce six brand-new crossover downloadable content packs featuring properties such as Godzilla and Evangelion. Bayonetta is slated to join the track as a free update character.
Tracking Guest Properties
The title launched on September 25, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch 2 edition following months later. Year One digital deluxe additions featured cross-dimensional racers from Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, PAC-MAN, Mega Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Avatar Legends.
