At the end of the afternoon, this Sunday, three municipalities in the north of Seine-et-Marne were still deprived of drinking water. These are Crégy-lès-Meaux, Penchard and Chauconin-Neufmontiers. Since Saturday evening, it has therefore been a hassle for thousands of households, especially since it has been particularly hot.

In question, the rupture of an underground water pipe, probably located at the height of the D 38. All day, technicians from the drinking water supplier Veolia have been hard at work trying to locate the rupture and fix it.

“The whole community is affected”

“We are organizing a distribution of bottles of water to the technical services, located rue des Carrouges”, specified an official at the town hall of Crégy-lès-Meaux on Sunday morning. Not to mention that Elisabeth Gasbarian, Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs, and the mayor’s wife went to the elderly to distribute bottles of water. “The whole town has been affected,” confirmed Mayor Gérard Chomont.

“My children and I discovered that there was no water around midnight. I found water packs in a grocery store in Meaux because the Carrefour Market and the Auchan store had been robbed. Around 4 p.m., we were treated to a small trickle of water. This is the first time that the whole city has been affected completely and for so long, ”says this mother, who lives in the Fontaine-Sarrazin district.

In Chauconin-Neufmontiers, Mayor Marie Leal estimated Sunday morning that 90% of the town was affected: “Some residents realized it in the middle of the night. It all depends on whether you live in the upper or lower part of Penchard. We are waiting for a pallet of water that Veolia must deliver to us. »

If the prison of Meaux-Chauconin was spared in the morning, the prisoners and the prison staff found themselves without water from noon. By mid-afternoon, the water supply had returned, at moderate flow.

On the side of Penchard, it is indeed the whole village which found itself dry all day. Bottles of water were distributed at the town hall and solidarity worked, with bottles distributed door-to-door. The return to service could take place this Sunday evening. Veolia had already had to intervene in Crégy-lès-Meaux, last November: a pipe had broken in the rue de la Roche, blocked for months, following subsidence of the roadway.
