Heavy rains have once again worsened the water quality of the Seine River, forcing the cancellation of training for the triathlon the day before the mixed relay.

According to Inside the Games on the 4th, the Olympic Organizing Committee partially canceled the mixed triathlon relay training scheduled to be held on the Seine River the previous morning.

The organizing committee announced that “the training was canceled due to the heavy rain that fell upstream of Paris over the past two days and the resulting deterioration in water quality,” and that “the training will only consist of running and cycling.”

France invested 1.4 billion euros (about 2.1 trillion won) in a project to improve the water quality of the Seine River ahead of the upcoming Olympics, but the country is struggling as the water quality is not improving at all.

To make matters worse, heavy rain poured down from the opening ceremony. When it rains, the concentration of bacteria that cause infection increases significantly.

This is not the first time that triathlon training has been canceled due to the deteriorating water quality of the Seine River. The men’s race was also postponed once before, but the athletes’ distrust remains.

After the men’s match, Tyler Myslocuk’s vomiting scene was broadcast to the world through broadcast cameras and photos, sparking controversy once again.

The Seine River hosts a mixed triathlon on the 5th and a marathon swimming race on the 8th and 9th.

Organizers are considering a “duathlon format” with only cycling and running events, excluding swimming, and a marathon swimming event at the Vers-sur-Mer seafront stadium outside Paris.
